Job summary

Seattle University seeks a Part-time Temporary Copy Cataloger to focus on the physical copy cataloging of two major gift collections in the Lemieux and Cornish Libraries. Working in Ex Libris Alma, this role imports records from the NZ into the IZ to ensure accurate representation and discoverability via Primo VE.

The successful candidate will have strong technical cataloging skills, experience in shared bibliographic environments, and the ability to work independently with high accuracy.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in library science or equivalent required; MLS/MLIS preferred.
• 1–2 years of copy cataloging experience in an academic library.
• Hands‑on experience with Ex Libris Alma, including Metadata Editor for single-record imports and IZ/NZ management.
• Strong knowledge of MARC21, OCLC WorldCat searching, and LCC standards.

Responsibilities

• Copy Cataloging & Import into Ex Libris Alma (75%).
• Search IZ/NZ to identify duplicates and link/match records per consortium rules.
• Import records from OCLC via Connexion or WorldShare as appropriate.
• Edit MARC records to current cataloging standards (RDA, LCSH).
• Assign LC classification and local call numbers; handle original cataloging routing as needed.
• Physical processing and inventory maintenance (15%).
• Create holdings and item records in IZ; enter barcodes and shelving data; complete end processing.
