Description

Summary:

The Glassell Junior School is currently seeking qualified candidates for part-time contract faculty positions in visual art instruction - ceramics, media/digital arts, drawing, painting, sculpture, fashion and more.

Responsibilities:

As a member of the Museum of Fine Arts, Houston’s Glassell Junior School, faculty are responsible for teaching and instruction, nurturing creativity and fostering an appreciation of the arts.

Essential Functions:

  • Maintain an efficient and orderly classroom
  • Oversee the safe and proper use of equipment and materials
  • Maintain behavior standards in the classroom
  • Supervise students for the duration of each assigned class, as well as outside of the classroom as appropriate
  • Develop new courses and material, in conjunction with the Junior School Administrative leadership
  • Attend and participate in faculty meetings
  • Stay current in teaching disciplines
  • Stay current, informed and in compliance with the policies, guidelines and health & safety practices of the Junior School and the Museum of Fine Arts, Houston

Skills, Knowledge and Abilities:

  • Ability to engage students in active learning of discipline
  • Ability to communicate effectively in written and oral forms; excellent interpersonal skills
  • Ability to adapt instruction to enhance student learning, including appropriate use of traditional, technology-assisted, hands-on, and other forms of instruction
  • Ability to work Monday- Friday during the summer semester; and evenings and weekends during fall and spring as program requires

Education and Experience:

  • B.A. or B.F.A. in arts, education, or humanities (commensurate experience in teaching and professional development may be substituted with administrative approval)
  • Applicants must have demonstrated knowledge of artistic processes, mediums, and techniques
  • Previous teaching experience in related field
  • Experience teaching children ages 4-18 strongly preferred
