Job summary

City of Liberal is seeking a part-time concessions worker to support daily operations at Recreation Department facilities and events. You will greet patrons, serve food and beverages, and handle cash transactions to provide a positive guest experience.

Responsibilities include operating the concession stand, restocking supplies, and maintaining cleanliness and safety in food preparation and service areas. Prior food service or cash-handling experience is preferred.

Qualifications

• Experience in food service, concessions, retail or customer service.
• Ability to handle cash transactions accurately and efficiently.
• Food safety training or certification is preferred.

Responsibilities

• Provide friendly, courteous, and professional customer service to patrons.
• Operate concession stand during assigned hours, programs, games, tournaments, and events.
• Prepare, heat, package, and serve food and beverages per procedures.
• Operate cash register and handle cash, credit/debit, and other payments.
• Maintain accurate cash handling and follow opening/closing procedures.
• Restock food, beverages, supplies, and merchandise as needed.
• Maintain clean and sanitary food preparation, serving, storage, and customer areas.
• Follow food safety, sanitation, and health regulations.
• Monitor inventory and notify supervisor when supplies are low.
• Store food and supplies properly and monitor freshness.
• Assist with opening and closing duties, including cleaning equipment and spaces.
• Follow Recreation Department policies and safety guidelines.

FLSA: Part-Time Non-Exempt; work >1000 hrs per year

The fundamental reason this classification exists is to perform with daily concession operations at Recreation Department facilities and events. This position is responsible for providing friendly service to patrons, preparing and serving food and beverages, handling cash and electronic payments, maintaining a clean and sanitary work area, and ensuring a positive experience for visitors

Key Responsibilities:

• Provide friendly, courteous, and professional customer service to patrons.
• Operate the concession stand during assigned hours, programs, games, tournaments, and special events.
• Prepare, heat, package, and serve food and beverages according to established procedures.
• Operate a cash register and accurately handle cash, credit/debit, and other approved forms of payment.
• Maintain accurate cash handling and follow department procedures for opening and closing the concession stand.
• Restock food, beverages, supplies, and merchandise as needed.
• Maintain clean and sanitary food preparation, serving, storage, and customer areas.
• Follow all applicable food safety, sanitation, and health regulations.
• Monitor inventory and notify the supervisor when supplies are low.
• Properly store food and supplies and monitor product freshness.
• Assist with opening and closing duties, including cleaning equipment, counters, floors, and other work areas.
• Follow all Recreation Department policies, procedures, and safety guidelines.
• Assist with other facility or event duties as assigned.

Skills and Competencies:

Knowledge/skills:

• Must be dependable and able to work scheduled shifts.
• Must be able to work evenings, weekends, holidays, and/or special events as scheduling requires.

Ability to:

• Ability to provide excellent customer service and work effectively with the public.
• Ability to handle cash and accurately complete transactions.
• Ability to follow written and verbal instructions.
• Ability to maintain a clean, organized, and safe work environment.
• Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
• Work is performed primarily in Recreation Department concession stand facilities. The position may involve working in both indoor and outdoor environments and may require exposure to varying temperatures, noise, crowds, and busy event conditions.
• Ability to successfully pass a background check and any other pre-employment screenings.

Education and Experience:

• Previous experience in food service, concessions, retail, or customer service.
• Previous cash-handling or point-of-sale experience.
• Food safety training or certification.
• Experience working in a recreation, sports, or community facility.
