Qualifications

• Requires Maryland dental hygiene license.
• Certification in local anesthesia and nitrous oxide.
• Current CPR/BLS certification.
• Minimum of 2 years clinical experience as a practicing dental hygienist.
• Previous teaching or mentoring experience preferred.
• Strong communication, interpersonal, and organizational skills.

Responsibilities

• Supervise and mentor dental hygiene students in a clinical setting, ensuring they develop the necessary skills to provide high‑quality patient care.
• Provide hands‑on training in prophylaxis, periodontal therapy, sealant application, fluoride treatments, and patient education.
• Ensure students adhere to infection control protocols, OSHA and HIPAA regulations, and ethical and legal standards in patient care.
• Encourage students to develop critical thinking and problem‑solving skills in clinical decision‑making.
• Oversee student‑provided patient care to ensure safety, effectiveness, and adherence to professional standards.
• Provide direct patient care when necessary to support clinical operations and enhance the learning environment.
• Ensure clinical areas are clean, organized, and fully stocked with necessary instruments and supplies.
• Monitor the proper operation and maintenance of clinical equipment, reporting issues for timely resolution.
• Assess student performance through observation, feedback, and competency evaluations, ensuring skill development and professional growth.
• Maintain thorough documentation of student attendance, performance, evaluations, and patient records.
• Prepare and submit reports on student progress, identifying areas for improvement and additional support.
• Work closely with faculty and staff to coordinate clinical scheduling, student assignments, and patient management.
• Participate in faculty meetings, training sessions, and discussions to support curriculum development and continuous improvement of the program.
• Assist in implementation and refinement of clinic policies and procedures to uphold high standards of education and patient care.
• Stay current with advancements in dental hygiene, clinical instruction, and best practices through ongoing education and professional development.
• Engage in training sessions, workshops, and conferences to enhance instructional techniques and keep pace with industry standards.
• Act as a mentor and role model, fostering a positive learning environment.
