Qualifications

• DDS or DMD degree from an accredited institution.
• Active Maryland dental license.
• Current CPR/BLS certification.
• Minimum of two years of clinical experience in general dentistry.
• Experience in education/mentorship or clinical supervision preferred.
• Proficiency in dental hygiene concepts and clinical practice.
• Knowledge of dental software (Dentrix, TalEval) and EHRs preferred.

Responsibilities

• Provide comprehensive dental hygiene services including exams and management of emergencies.
• Consult on cases with medically compromised patients and modify treatment plans accordingly.
• Prescribe, interpret, and diagnose conditions from radiographs.
• Oversee and approve patient treatment plans per state regulations and program guidelines.
• Administer local anesthesia and nitrous oxide as needed for patient care and learning.
• Evaluate student performance through hands-on teaching and varied instructional methods.
• Ensure infection control, OSHA, and HIPAA compliance in the clinic.
• Collaborate with faculty to enhance students’ clinical knowledge and skills.
• Educate students on professional and ethical responsibilities.

Job Duties And Responsibilities

• Provide comprehensive dental hygiene services, including examinations, diagnostics, consultations, referrals, and management of medical emergencies.
• Consult on cases involving medically compromised patients, ensuring appropriate modifications to treatment plans.
• Prescribe, interpret, and diagnose conditions based on radiographic findings.
• Oversee and approve patient treatment plans in accordance with state dental practice regulations and program guidelines.
• Administer local anesthesia and nitrous oxide as needed to support patient care and student learning.
• Evaluate and support student performance through hands‑on teaching and diverse instructional methods tailored to various learning needs.
• Ensure strict compliance with infection control, OSHA, and HIPAA regulations to maintain a safe and professional clinical environment.
• Collaborate with faculty to enhance students’ clinical knowledge and skill development in evidence‑based dentistry.
• Educate students on professional and ethical responsibilities within a dental healthcare setting, reinforcing best practices.
• Participate in faculty meetings, calibration sessions, and curriculum development discussions as needed.
• Assist with and support the accreditation process, ensuring all required documentation is completed and maintained.
• Perform additional duties as assigned by the Program Director, ensuring alignment with the mission and goals of the College and Dental Hygiene Program.
• Prescribe medication as needed.

Required Qualifications

• Doctor of Dental Surgery (DDS) or Doctor of Dental Medicine (DMD) degree from an accredited institution.
• Active dental license in the state of Maryland.
• Current CPR/BLS certification.
• Minimum of two years of clinical experience in general dentistry.
• Previous experience in education, mentorship, or clinical supervision is preferred.
• Possess knowledge of, and demonstrates proficiency in, current concepts in dental hygiene, dental hygiene education, clinical instruction, general dentistry, and clinical practice.
• Strong communication and leadership skills with a passion for teaching and mentoring students.
• Commitment to evidence‑based dentistry, ethical practice, and lifelong learning.
• Knowledge of dental software (e.g., Dentrix, TalEval) and electronic health records preferred.
