Responsibilities

• Prepare exam rooms and restock treatment areas and nurse’s station
• Maintain timely flow of patients
• Greet patients and prepare them for physical examination
• Assist physicians with treatments and procedures
• Follow physicians to out-of-town clinics and update paperwork and EMR entries
• Respond to and refer to incoming calls; instruct patients on medications and treatment instructions
• Review charts for daily appointments and relay information to receptionist
• Maintain patient confidentiality
• Attend required meetings and participate in committees
• Participate in professional development and maintain affiliations
• Maintain regular and reliable attendance

Essential Functions:

• Responsible for preparation of exam rooms including restocking of treatment areas; including nurse’s station.
• Maintains timely flow of patients.
• Greets patients and prepares them for physical examination.
• Assists physicians with treatments and procedures as applicable.
• Follows physicians to out-of-town clinics and updates all paperwork and EMR entries for those clinics, as applicable.
• Responds to and refers to incoming telephone calls. Instructs patient and family regarding medications and treatment instructions.
• Reviews charts for daily appointments to include referral updates, information from referring physician, lab and X-ray results; communicates this information to the receptionist.
• Maintains patient confidentiality.
• Performs related work as required.
• Attends required meetings and participates in committees as requested.
• Participates in professional development activities and maintains professional affiliations.
• Regular and reliable attendance is an essential function of the job.

Knowledge, Skills, Abilities:

• Knowledge of the organization's policies, regulations, and procedures for administering patient care
• Knowledge of examination, diagnostic, and treatment room procedures
• Knowledge of medical chart reporting/records
• Skill in appropriate use of universal precautions, safe workplace, and confidentiality methods
• Skill in health information management by appropriately charting patient data
• Ability to properly interact with patients, families, physicians, staff, and others
• Ability to respond flexibly to changing demands

Experience and Education:

• 2 years experience in Orthopedics or in a hospital/clinical setting is preferred
• CPR and BLS Certified
