Job summary

Beverly Public Library is seeking an Assistant Children's Librarian (Part-time) in Beverly. The role supports the Head of Children’s Services, works 14 hours per week plus one weekend monthly, and involves supervision in the department, program planning, and engaging with children and families.

The position requires MLS/ALA-accredited degree or current MLS study with Reference coursework; duties include handling reader advisory, catalog instruction, and community outreach, with collaboration

Qualifications

MLS/MLIS from ALA-accredited program, or enrolled with half courses completed including Reference.

Responsibilities

Supervise the Children’s Department in the absence of the Head of Children’s Services or Assistant Librarian.
Plan, coordinate, and present services, resources, and programs for children.
Assist in selecting materials for children’s collection.
Conduct story hours and programs in library, schools, and community.
Provide tours and instruction in library resources to children, parents, and teachers.
Establish and maintain effective working relationships with staff.
Communicate effectively with the public.
Work closely with local schools.
Provide reader advisory and reading lists and bibliographies.
Provide reference services to children and others.
Instruct patrons in the online catalog and other resources.
Attend professional and community meetings.
