Job summary

Catholic Charities of Long Island seeks a part-time CDL Driver to support senior-centered services across Nassau and Suffolk counties. You will transport seniors and volunteers to centers, assist with wheelchairs, and help with meal service as needed.

Required are a NYS CDL with P endorsement, HS diploma, and driving experience. The schedule is 14 hours per week with a flexible arrangement; pay is $20 per hour. Compassion, safety, and teamwork are essential.

Qualifications

• HS Diploma/GED is required.
• 2 years driving experience with basic vehicle maintenance knowledge.
• Valid NYS CDL with P Passenger endorsement required.

Responsibilities

• Drive seniors/volunteers to centers while following safety procedures.
• Assist frail or wheelchair-bound individuals as needed.
• Maintain daily pickup/mileage logs and receipts.
• Assist with meal service and kitchen duties as required.
• Disposal of unconsumed food for sanitation.
• Help set up/participate in center events and activities.
• Transport materials and supplies to various locations as needed.

Responsibilities

• Drive senior citizens and/or volunteers to and from their homes or apartments to the senior community service center or other places, ensuring safety procedures are followed.
• Ability to assist frail or handicapped individuals by lifting or pushing wheel chairs.
• Maintain accurate paperwork including log sheets of daily pick-ups, mileage, number of trips, fuel and oil receipts, money received.
• Assist with food service (meals) at centers. This includes breaking down and setting up dining tables, assisting with kitchen duties such as lifting heavy pots of hot water, taking trays of food in and out of oven for distribution.
• Dispose of unconsumed food for sanitation pick up.
• Assist center staff in setting up for and participating in recreational and/or social events as needed.
• Pick up and/or deliver various materials and supplies which may include trips to food stores, pharmacies, Hicksville Administrative office, etc.

Qualifications

• HS Diploma/GED.
• At least 2 years’ driving experience including knowledge of basic vehicle maintenance.
• Current NYS valid CDL license with “P” Passenger endorsement.
• English language capability.
• A sincere desire to provide compassionate service to seniors.
• Ability to lift/push to assist wheelchair-bound clients in boarding AND exiting bus.
• Ability to assist frail clients in boarding and exiting bus.
• Willingness to perform unrelated tasks at the center as needed.

Schedule

Part-time:14 hours per week – flexible schedule

Rate of Pay

$20 per hour

This rate of pay serves as a good faith estimate. Actual pay is based on a number of factors which may include a candidate’s qualifications, skills, competencies, experience and work location. The salary range or rate listed does not include any differential pay or other forms of compensation which may be applicable to this position
