Job summary

Durham School Services is seeking a Bus Assistant in Pittsburgh to support safe and reliable transportation for students. You will assist with boarding and alighting, monitor student behavior, and help keep the bus clean and organized during routes.

Responsibilities include guiding students, reporting concerns, and complying with safety policies. This is a part-time, day-shift role requiring attentiveness, professionalism, and the ability to work well with children and school personnel.

Qualifications

• Must be at least 18 years of age; for New York School Bus Assistants, must be at least 19 years of age per state law.
• Must meet physical and medical requirements.
• Must satisfactorily complete and pass all training and attend safety meetings and in-service meetings in order to remain qualified.
• Must have a high degree of attention to detail and considerable dexterity to safely use various types of restraints, secure wheelchairs, etc.
• Ability to relate to and work well with children.
• Ability to maintain effective pupil behavior management.
• High level of professionalism and diplomacy skills to work with students, fellow employees, parents, and school district personnel.
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
• Ability to lift and assist students when necessary.

Responsibilities

• Assist students with entering or exiting the bus in a safe manner.
• Seat students safely using belts, car seats or wheelchair restraints as needed.
• Serve as a role model with a positive attitude and integrity.
• Monitor passengers to ensure safety regulations and conduct rules are followed.
• Document and report any violations or conduct concerns to appropriate authority.
• Safely evacuate passengers in emergencies and ensure belongings are taken off the bus.
• Assist driver in keeping the interior clean and presentable.
• Complete required paperwork and submit promptly.
• Attend training and safety meetings as scheduled.
• Other duties as assigned.
