Job summary

Durham School Services is seeking a dedicated School Bus Assistant to support safe student transportation and maintain a positive, secure environment on our buses.

You will help students board and exit safely, monitor behavior, and report concerns promptly. The role emphasizes professionalism, punctuality, and collaboration with drivers and school staff to ensure safety and reliability.

Qualifications

• Must be able to relate to and work well with children.
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
• Must be at least 18 years old.
• Must meet physical and medical requirements.
• Ability to lift and assist students when necessary.

Responsibilities

• Assist students with entering or exiting the bus safely.
• Seat students using appropriate restraints as required.
• Monitor passengers to ensure safety and conduct rules are followed.
• Document and report violations or conduct concerns to the appropriate authority.
• Keep the interior of the vehicle clean and presentable.
• Attend training, safety meetings, and in-service trainings.
• Complete required paperwork in a timely manner.
• Present a neat, professional appearance and report to duty on time.
