Job summary

Chesterfield Township Building Department is seeking a Part-Time Building Inspector to perform inspections of residential, commercial, and industrial construction to ensure compliance with building codes and township ordinances.

Under the Building Director, you will inspect various stages, coordinate with contractors and township staff, maintain records, and provide professional customer service while enforcing codes. This part-time role requires Michigan licensing and a valid driver's license.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED.
• Considerable experience in building construction, inspection, skilled trades, construction management, or related field.
• Must meet State of Michigan requirements to perform building inspections for a governmental subdivision.
• Must possess and maintain Michigan licensing/certification/licensing as required.
• Valid Michigan driver’s license.
• Able to complete background/pre-employment requirements.

Responsibilities

• Inspect residential, commercial, and industrial construction to ensure code compliance.
• Identify code violations and communicate required corrections to contractors and owners.
• Maintain inspection records, reports, and documentation.
• Review plans, permits, site information, and related documents.
• Coordinate inspections with other township departments as needed.
• Attend meetings and continuing education.
