Job summary

Colgate University’s Department of Music invites applications for the position of Teacher of Bass, a part-time role beginning Fall 2026. The successful candidate will teach bass to students, develop lesson plans, and select repertoire for performances, in a liberal arts setting.

The ideal candidate has demonstrated professional bass performance experience, collegiate teaching ability, and a degree in music (Bachelor’s required; Master’s preferred).

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in music required; master’s degree preferred.
• Professional performer in jazz or related styles on bass.
• Experience teaching bass lessons one-on-one, collegiate preferred.

Responsibilities

• Teaching bass lessons to students; relevant techniques and performance skills.
• Developing and implementing lesson plans catering to students’ needs and skill levels.
• Selecting appropriate repertoire for lessons and performances.
• Staying updated with bass trends and applying innovative teaching methods.
• Meeting weekly with students for 30- or 60-minute lessons.
