Job summary

The Department of Music at Colgate University invites applications for the position of Teacher of Saxophone, beginning in Fall 2026. This part-time role suits an experienced professional with a strong commitment to teaching and fostering musical growth in a liberal arts setting.

The teacher of saxophone will teach one-on-one lessons, develop personalized plans, select appropriate repertoire, and incorporate current teaching methods.

Qualifications

• Demonstrated experience in teaching saxophone lessons one-on-one, with preference for collegiate-level teaching.
• Professional performance experience preferred.
• Ability to communicate effectively with students from diverse backgrounds and skill levels.

Responsibilities

• Teach lessons to students; relevant techniques and performance skills.
• Develop and implement lesson plans catering to students’ needs and skill levels.
• Select repertoire for students to work on during lessons and performances.
• Stay updated with current trends and teaching methods and incorporate them into lessons.
• Meet weekly with students for 30- or 60-minute lessons throughout the term.
