Position Summary

The Part-Time Athletic Director provides leadership, oversight, and strategic direction for the school's interscholastic athletics program.

The Athletic Director will ensure the successful administration of all athletic programs while promoting student achievement, sportsmanship, safety, compliance, and character development. The ideal candidate brings extensive experience managing athletic programs, supervising coaches, navigating athletic regulations, and building positive relationships with students, families, staff, and community partners.

Essential Responsibilities:
Athletic Program Leadership
  • Provide leadership and vision for the school's interscholastic athletics program.
  • Support the development of a positive athletics culture focused on student growth, teamwork, accountability, and sportsmanship.
  • Serve as a resource and mentor to coaches, student-athletes, and athletics staff.
  • Provide guidance on program improvement, scheduling, staffing, and operational effectiveness.
Compliance and Risk Management
  • Ensure athletic programs comply with applicable state athletic association regulations, league requirements, school policies, and safety standards.
  • Monitor student-athlete eligibility requirements, including academic standing, required documentation, and participation requirements.
  • Maintain accurate athletic records, certifications, and required reports.
  • Ensure appropriate procedures are followed related to transportation, facilities, equipment, emergency plans, and student safety.
Coaching Oversight and Support
  • Assist with the recruitment, selection, onboarding, and evaluation of coaching staff.
  • Provide guidance and support to coaches regarding expectations, policies, procedures, and best practices.
  • Promote professional conduct, ethical leadership, and positive interactions among coaches, athletes, and families.
Operations and Administration
  • Oversee athletic schedules, contests, practices, tournaments, and special athletic events.
  • Coordinate with school administration regarding facilities, transportation, security, and event management.
  • Support athletic budget planning, purchasing, equipment management, and resource allocation.
  • Maintain effective communication with students, families, coaches, league officials, and community stakeholders.
Student-Athlete Development
  • Promote athletics as an extension of the school's academic mission.
  • Encourage student-athletes to demonstrate leadership, responsibility, academic commitment, and respect.
  • Support initiatives that increase student participation and enhance the overall student-athlete experience.
Qualifications:
Required:
  • Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university.
  • Significant experience as an Athletic Director, Assistant Athletic Director, school administrator, coach, or comparable athletics leadership role.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of athletic program administration, compliance requirements, and student-athlete development.
  • Strong organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills.
Preferred:
  • Prior experience serving as a high school Athletic Director.
  • Experience in public school, charter school, or independent school athletics.
  • Knowledge of state athletic association rules and regulations.
  • Previous experience supervising coaches and managing athletic budgets.
  • Retired Athletic Director, Principal, Assistant Principal, or school administrator seeking a part-time leadership opportunity.

Work Schedule:

Compensation:

Compensation will be commensurate with experience and responsibilities.
