YMCA of Greater Hartford is seeking an Assistant Swim Team Coach to support the Head Coach in delivering age-appropriate workouts, managing practices, and running team activities in Plainville, CT. This part-time role emphasizes safety, skill development, and positive instruction for young swimmers.

The position requires prior coaching experience, swim credentials, and weekend availability, with opportunities to engage families and participate in meets and clinics throughout the year.

Qualifications

• 3+ years experience as a competitive swimmer (collegiate preferred).
• 1+ years swim coaching experience preferred.
• Possesses USA Swimming and YMCA coaching credentials.
• Must demonstrate proficient swim skills and stroke mechanics; communicate with swimmers and parents.
• Will require valid USA/ YMCA coaching certification.
• Weekend work at swim meets is required.
• Enthusiastic, dynamic presence with good communication skills.
• Certifications: CPR for Professional Rescuer, AED, and First Aid or willingness to obtain.

Responsibilities

• Assist Head Swim Team Coach in creating age-appropriate workouts focusing on technique and endurance.
• Participate in structured practices on weekday evenings throughout the year.
• Record workouts and track daily attendance.
• Assist with team administration, meet arrangements and data collection.
• Coordinate and execute swim team competitions and meet registrations; record times.
• Attend meets and team events as directed by head coach.
• Engage parents to build a collaborative team environment.
• Assist in stroke clinics and coach training opportunities.
• Maintain a clean, safe, and positive environment for swimmers.
