Qualifications

• 3+ years experience as a competitive swimmer, collegiate experience preferred.
• 1+ years swim coaching experience preferred.
• USA Swimming and YMCA coaching credentials (or ability to obtain upon hire).
• Valid USA/ YMCA coaching certification required.

Responsibilities

• Create age-appropriate workouts emphasizing technique, endurance, and stroke development.
• Participate in structured practices on weekday evenings throughout the year.
• Record workouts and track daily attendance.
• Assist with administrative matters, swim meet arrangements and parent communication.
• Coordinate and execute swim team competitions and meet registrations.
• Attend meets and team events as directed by head coach.
• Engage parents to foster a collaborative team environment.
• Assist in stroke clinics and coach training opportunities.
• Maintain a clean, safe environment for swimmers.

Job Title: Assistant Swim Team Coach

FLSA Status: Non-Exempt Job Grade:

Primary Department: Swim Team

Reports to: Head Swim Team Coach & Aquatics Director

POSITION SUMMARY:

Under the direction of the Head Swim Team Coach, The Assistant Swim Team Coach provides direct leadership, instruction andmotivation for swim team participants, is expected to attend swim meets and teamfunctions throughout the year, and is responsible for creating and maintaining aclean, safe and positive environment for the swim team participants.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

• Assist Head Swim Team Coach in creating thorough, age-appropriate workouts focusing on technique, endurance, stroke development, drills, etc;;
• Participate in structured practices in weekday evenings throughout the year;
• Help to record all workouts and track daily attendance.
• Assist Head Swim Team Coach with administrative matters relating to the team, swim meet arrangements and team performance as well as interaction with parents;
• Assist in coordinating and executing swim team competitions and meet registrations and recording times and collecting other relevant data at swim meets;
• Attend swim team events such as meets, meetings, social events, etc. at the direction of the head coach;
• Engage parents and cultivate relationships to create a collaborative swim team environment;
• Assist in swim team social event planning, as necessary;
• Assist in stroke clinics (if any) offered between competitive seasons;
• Participate in coach training opportunities offered by the Head Swim Team Coach;
• Assist in maintaining a clean, safe and positive environment for swim teamparticipants.

QUALIFICATIONS:

• 3+ years experience as a competitive swimmer; collegiate competitive swimming experience preferred;
• 1+ years swim coaching experience preferred;
• Possesses (or can obtain upon hire) USA Swimming and YMCA coaching credentials;
• Must be able to demonstrate proficiency of swim skills and have a strong foundation in stroke mechanics and be able to communicate effectively with swimmers and their parents;
• will require valid USA/ YMCA coaching certification
• will weekend work at swim meets
• Enthusiastic, dynamic presence with good communication skill;
• Certifications: CPR for Professional Rescuer, AED, and First Aid certifications or willingness to obtain;
• Twenty-one (21) years of age or older preferred.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENT:

• Ability to walk, stand, and sit (including on the floor) for long periods of time.
• Must be able to lift and/or assist children up to 30 pounds in weight.
• Visual and auditory ability to respond to critical situations and physical ability to act swiftly in an emergency
