Job summary

Alvin College in Texas is seeking a Part-Time Assistant in the Student Life Office to provide clerical and event support. The role involves helping with student events, managing front-desk duties, and assisting clubs and student organizations in a student-centered environment.

Qualifications

Responsibilities

  • Assist with student events, programs, and services in the Student Life Office.
  • Provide clerical and front-desk support, answer phones, greet students, and manage inquiries.
  • Support student clubs and events with logistics, room reservations, and promotional materials.
  • Assist with Student Government Association activities and programs.
  • Maintain campus postings and bulletin boards; help with orientation and recruitment events.
  • Provide general office support including data entry, filing, and scheduling.
  • Other duties as assigned by the Director, Athletics or designee.

SUMMARY

We have 1 opening for this Part-Time clerical support position in our Student Life Office. Position is limited to 19 hours per week.

TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT

Requires flexible work schedule to meet program needs, which may include working days, evenings and/or weekends. May require travel to our main campus in Alvin and/or to various offsite locations, including local high schools in Alvin, Danbury, Manvel and Pearland.

Requires the provision of official transcripts and/or certifications within (30) days of hire. Applicants with academic credentials from non-U.S. accredited institutions are required to have their coursework evaluated in terms of U.S. "equivalency." All international credential evaluations must be conducted by one of the companies affiliated with the National Association of Credential Evaluation Services, Inc. in order to be considered for a faculty position. Applicants bear the responsibility of requesting, paying associated fees, and obtaining an original transcript evaluation for submission to the Office of Human Resources. ESSENTIAL JOB DUTIES

The Part-Time Assistant, Student Life supports the Student Life Office by assisting with student events, programs, and services that foster engagement, leadership, and community on campus. This position provides clerical and event support, assists student organizations, and delivers customer service in a student-centered environment.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Assist in the planning, promotion, and coordination of student activities, events, and programs
  • Provide clerical and front-desk support for the Student Life Office, including answering phones, greeting students, and managing inquiries
  • Support student clubs and organizations with event logistics, room reservations, and promotional materials
  • Assist with Student Government Association activities and programs
  • Maintain bulletin boards, digital signage, and campus event postings
  • Provide support for orientation, campus recruiting events, and community outreach activities
  • Assist with ID card production and inventory
  • Provide general office support including filing, data entry, and scheduling
  • Other duties as assigned by the Director, Athletics or designee
WORK ENVIRONMENT

The employee typically works in an office or other on-campus environment and uses a computer, telephone and other office equipment as needed to perform duties with frequent interaction with students, staff, and the public. May involve occasional evening or weekend work to support events. The noise level in the work environment is typical of that of an office or other on-campus event setting. The employee may encounter frequent interruptions throughout the workday.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS

The employee is regularly required to sit, talk, or hear; frequently required to use repetitive hand motion, handle or feel, and to stand, walk, reach, bend or lift up to twenty (20) pounds.

QUALIFICATIONS
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • At least six (6) months of customer service, clerical, or related experience
  • Basic proficiency with Microsoft Office applications (Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint)
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills
  • Ability to work flexible hours, including occasional evenings and weekends
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
  • One (1) year of experience working in a higher education or student services setting
  • Experience assisting with events or student activities
  • Bilingual - English/Spanish
