Job summary

Big Lots is seeking an Assistant Manager to deliver excellent customer service and support the Store Manager in operating the store to meet company goals.

You will help hire/train staff, supervise hourly team members, and ensure daily tasks are completed efficiently while maintaining store standards and security.

Qualifications

• Prior retail and management experience preferred.
• Strong communication, interpersonal and written skills.
• Ability to lift up to 50 lbs and stand/walk for long periods.
• Flexible schedule including days, evenings, weekends and holidays.

Responsibilities

• Assist with hiring, training and development of store team members as delegated by the Store Manager.
• Assist with all store functions and day-to-day activities as directed by the Store Manager.
• Open and close procedures in the Store Manager's absence.
• Protect and secure store assets, including cash.
• Adhere to all policies, procedures and safety guidelines.

• Keep stockroom and sales floor maintained to company standards and organized.
• Direct hourly Team Members when the Store Manager is not on the premises.
• Process corporate directives.
• Assist in receipt/return of DSD merchandise and freight flow management.
• Meet or exceed productivity standards and assist in stocking merchandise.

Summary

As a Big Lots Assistant Manager you will be responsible for providing excellent customer service to our customers and supporting the Store Manager with the overall operation of the store to achieve company deliverables.

Duties and Responsibilities

• Assist with the hiring, training and development of store team members as delegated by the Store Manager
• Assist with all store functions and day-to-day store activities as directed by the Store Manager
• Able to perform all opening and closing procedures in the absence of the Store Manager
• Assist the Store Manager in protecting and securing all company assets, including store cash.
• Adhere to all policies and procedures including safety guidelines.
• Maintain a professional and friendly environment with customers, subordinates, and supervisors.
• Maintain all areas of the store, including the stockroom and sales floor, to company standards to include recovery.
• When the Store Manager is not on the premises, direct supervisory responsibility for all hourly Team Members
• Process all SSC Corporate directives.
• Assist the Store Manager on the receipt and return of DSD merchandise.
• Assist Store Manager in the management of freight flow.
• Meet or exceed productivity standards.
• Assist the Store Manager in ordering and stocking all merchandise needs.
• Assist the Store Manager in maintaining stockroom organization.
• Assist the Store Manager in ensuring that the sales floor is sales effective daily.
• Assist the Store Manager in planning and implementing all directives in the Store Operations Weekly Bulletin.

Qualifications

• Prefer prior retail and management experience.
• Effective communication, interpersonal, and written skills
• Ability to regularly lift up to 50lbs from floor level to above shoulder height; must be able to meet demands of frequent walking, standing, stooping, kneeling, climbing, pushing, pulling, twisting, and repetitive lifting, with or without reasonable accommodation.
• Ability to work in a high energy, team environment.
• Ability to work flexible, part-time schedule to include days, evenings, weekends, and holidays.
