Job summary

Lone Star College-CyFair is seeking a Part-Time Assistant II in the Library Joint Use to deliver friendly, efficient service to students, faculty, staff and the community.

You will handle circulation, holds, patron records, ID cards, and assist with study rooms, displays, and special projects, primarily during nights and weekends.

Job Description

PURPOSE AND SCOPE:

The PT Assistant II, Library Joint Use provides friendly,efficient, high quality customer service to students, faculty,staff, and community patrons. He or She assists students, facultyand the general public in obtaining library resources, helpsstudents find library materials, shelves books and periodicals,manages study rooms, creates student IDs, and completes otherduties as assigned. He or She circulates library materials andmaintains patron records using the integrated library system andother software, interprets and enforces established librarypolicies and procedures, and works within the guidelines andprocedures of job function with little to no supervision. Thisposition will support the library primarily during nights andweekends.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

  1. Open and close library during specified hours and securinglibrary equipment and cashbox. Charge, discharge, and renew librarycirculating and reserved materials. Register and re-registerlibrary patrons in SirsiDynix Symphony Workflows. Process studentids, specialty badges for Health services, and employee Access cardbadges using ID Credentials
  2. Retrieve and process system intra-library (Harris andMontgomery county public libraries and all of Lone Star collegelibraries) hold requests for campus items. Receive and processincoming bins for shelving and hold requests for campus patrons.Route interlibrary (via Library Technical Services) loan requests.Handle the book drops and in house use items. Notify patrons vialibrary email concerning hold requests and processing expiredholds
  3. Collect and record fines and fees. Remove library serviceindicator blocks using iStar program. Add funds to patron printingaccounts using Pharos and instruct patrons on printing procedures.Troubleshoot copiers and printers. Administer and approve guestaccount access for Public library patrons and communitypatrons
  4. Collect monies for fines and lost materials, update systemrecords accordingly. Document day end balance of fines collectedand ensure tallies match, deliver to designated area foraccounting
  5. Answer telephones and provide routine information or refers andtransfers calls. Assist with the maintenance and order of theCirculation department by organizing forms and supplies, cover newbooks, and repair non-print cases, books, and other librarymaterials
  6. Assist in the preparation of book displays, withdrawing oflibrary materials, inventory, and other special projects asneeded
  7. Provide customer service assistance to library visitors; serveas point of contact for the library in person, by phone and email;refer patrons to reference librarians when additional referenceassistance is needed
  8. Use integrated Library system software to perform circulationservices including checkout and renewal of materials, maintainingpatron Library records, processing requests and holds and othergeneral circulation services
  9. Use integrated library system software to issue and updatestudent, faculty and patron ID cards, ensuring properidentification is presented and accurate information isentered/updated in the system
  10. Enforce circulation policies and procedures for students,faculty and the public. Participate in the development ofdocumentation for Circulation Desk procedures
  11. Prior to end of shift, secure library and perform closingduties for 2nd Floor which includes ensuring all patrons haveexited, locking side doors and 2nd floor main entrance slidingglass doors, locking the elevator at ground floor so no one isallowed to enter 2nd or 3rd floor, turning off all computers and IDcamera, ensuring all material is stored in proper location
  12. Assist library patrons in the use of computers, copy machines,and the pay print system, fax machine, audiovisual equipment,scanner and various other technology
  13. Participate in shelf reading, collection inventory and repairof materials. Provide back-up support to the Learning Center,assist with library programs and special projects as needed,responsible for other reasonable, related duties as assigned
  14. Retrieve, sort and distribute mail and courier deliveries asassigned, maintain supplies & forms, straighten materials andequipment, record daily activity statistics. Maintain overallgeneral appearance of the library, monitor security gates, publicaccess computers, computer labs and the copy room


KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

PHYSICAL ABILITIES:

The work requires some physical exertion, such as long periods ofstanding; walking over rough, uneven, or rocky surfaces; recurringbending, crouching, stooping, stretching, reaching, or similaractivities; or recurring lifting of moderately heavy items, such astypewriters and record boxes. The work may require specific, butcommon, physical characteristics and abilities, such as aboveaverage agility and dexterity.

WORK SCHEDULE AND CONDITIONS:

  • Equipment used includes, PC workstation running on a LAN in aMicrosoft Windows environment, calculator, phone and other generaloffice equipment
  • Interface with internal and external contacts as needed tocarry out the functions of the position
  • Work is performed in a climate-controlled office with minimalexposure to safety hazards
  • Work scheduled primarily Monday-Thursday 3:00 PM to 8:00 PM andFriday-Sunday 12:00 PM to 5:00 PM.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • High school diploma or GED

Salary

Hourly Pay Rate is $15.92
