Job summary

College of Southern Nevada invites applications for a Part-Time Assistant/Lab Tech in the Office of Technology Services in Las Vegas. You will support students in the computer lab, assist with basic troubleshooting, and help keep labs organized and ready for instruction.

The role includes assisting with front desk tasks, imaging devices, inventory, and coordinating with full-time technicians. On-site training will be provided; candidates must maintain confidentiality and manage multiple tasks

Qualifications

  • Successfully completed IS101 with a grade of C or better (or equivalent).
  • MOS Word: Associate Level certification required.
  • MOS Excel: Associate Level certification required.

Responsibilities

  • Assist in the computer lab front desk with computer station and printer issues.
  • Troubleshoot basic hardware, software, and network connectivity problems on campus.
  • Configure equipment, inventory assets and peripherals, and maintain basic records of job activities.
  • Maintain organization and cleanliness of labs, office, and workbenches.
  • Set up and image devices for bench stock and support engineers, including cable management.
  • Perform bench stock inventory and reporting of equipment.
  • Assist with asset handling for surplus, moves, etc., under supervision.
  • Assist support engineers with customer-facing situations, including troubleshooting for faculty, staff, and students (on-site training provided).
  • Answer questions and direct students, faculty, and staff to resources when inquiries are made.

Part - Time Assistant, Computer Lab Tech, OTS - FY2027
Job Description

The primary role of the Part-Time Assistant/Tech in the Office ofTechnology Services (OTS) is to provide direct support to studentsin the computer lab, ensuring a welcoming and productiveenvironment for learning and technology use. Responsibilitiesinclude assisting with basic troubleshooting, guiding studentsthrough software and system usage, and maintaining lab organizationand readiness.

Candidates who demonstrate exceptional work ethic, strong ITknowledge, and technical skills may also be invited to contributeto broader departmental efforts. These contributions may includesupporting front- and back-end systems, participating in technicalprojects, and assisting with departmental initiatives that enhancedigital services across campus.

This paid part-time position reports directly to the manager and/orfull-time technicians, as directed. On-site training in allprocesses and tools will be provided.

The individual must understand and be committed to the efficientoperation of the department while maintaining confidentiality. Theindividual must take pride in the details of the position and beproficient at prioritizing and handling multiple tasks.

CORE RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Assist in the computer lab front desk with computer stationand/or printer issues or questions.
  • Troubleshoot basic hardware, software, and network connectivityproblems on campus.
  • Configure equipment, inventory assets and peripherals, andmaintain basic records of job activities.
  • Maintain organization and cleanliness of labs, office, andworkbenches, which may include cleaning, vacuuming, and recyclingboxes and packaging materials.
  • Set up and image devices for bench stock and/or supportengineers, including assisting with transporting, installing,securing, and cable management of devices in classrooms, labs,and/or staff offices.
  • Perform bench stock inventory and reporting of alltechnological and non-technical equipment.
  • Assist with asset handling for surplus, salvage, moves, etc.,under the supervision of OTS staff as needed.
  • Assist support engineers with customer-facing situations,including troubleshooting and resolving technical issues forfaculty, staff, and students in lab and classroom environments(on-site training provided).
  • Answer questions and direct students, faculty, and staff toappropriate resources when inquiries are made in person or byphone.
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
  • Must be dependable, punctual, and self-motivated, and able towork with minimal supervision.
  • Must demonstrate strong customer service skills (in-personand/or remote), including a positive and professionalattitude.
  • Knowledge of computers, office applications, and internet usage(additional training will be provided).
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications (Word, Excel,Outlook, etc.), along with strong writing skills.
  • Familiarity with calendar scheduling, internet searching, anddocument creation/editing.
  • Ability to physically transport and maintain equipment,including work under desks.
  • Ability to lift and transport 25-50+ lbs. repeatedly throughoutthe day.
  • Must maintain academic standing as required for continuedemployment.
REQUIRED COURSES + CERTS
  • Successfully completed IS101 with a grade of C or better (orequivalent coursework; verifiable transcript required).
  • Microsoft Office Specialist (MOS) Word: Associate Level(verifiable certification required).
  • Microsoft Office Specialist (MOS) Excel: Associate Level(verifiable certification required).
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
  • IT-related certifications such as MTA, CompTIA (A+, Network+,Cloud+, Security+), ACMT, HDI, or equivalent.
  • Currently pursuing an IT-related field of study or careerpath.
  • Letter of reference from faculty.

$13.20/per hour
