Job summary

CSUMB is seeking an hourly Interpreter/Realtime Captioner/Computer Aided Transcriber to support Deaf, Hard-of-Hearing, and hearing communities across campus. This role may interpret for lectures, events, and commencements, both in person and remotely, under the SDAC director.

Employment is non-exempt and offers compensation based on the CSU salary schedule. Anticipated hourly range is $45–$75, commensurate with experience.

Qualifications

• Four-year college or university background.
• Two years of relevant documented interpreting experience.
• RID/NAD certification preferred (not required).
• Ability to interpret both ASL and spoken English across settings.

Responsibilities

• Provide in-person and remote interpreting for classroom lectures and presentations from English into ASL or other sign systems; ensure register, tone, intent, and content are conveyed.
• Translate responses from sign language into English.
• Provide in-person and remote interpreting for short-term assignments, including conferences and meetings; maintain accuracy.
• Interpret in-person at events such as field trips, student housing, and CSUMB-affiliated events.
• Attend SDAC meetings; complete mandatory online campus training; maintain accurate hours and records.
