Position Information

Job Title: Part‑Time ASL Interpreter

Location: Main Campus, Lane Community College

Classification: ASL Interpreter (Hourly Part‑Time Classified, Temporary)

Salary: $34.17 – $50.11 per hour

Start Date: As needed

Application Deadline: 09/30/2026

Job Purpose

An ASL interpreter is responsible for providing sign language interpreting and transliterating services to LCC students and community in order to meet institutional compliance with ADA and Section 504 regulations.

Essential Functions
  • Provides in‑class interpretation and transliteration for deaf and hard of hearing students in college courses, laboratories, and events with highly complex technical content.
  • Uses sign language to transmit information from lectures, films, videotapes, and small‑group settings.
  • Assesses language needs to determine optimal language equivalence.
  • Researches new signs and develops technical signs as needed.
  • Stays current on new developments and techniques in the field of sign language interpretation.
  • Uses appropriate technology tools to support communication (e.g., assistive devices and digital platforms).
  • Collaborates effectively with students, staff, and faculty from diverse backgrounds.
  • Maintains confidentiality and handles FERPA‑sensitive information appropriately.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
Required Qualifications
  • Two (2) years of post‑secondary education or equivalent training in sign language and interpreting.
  • Experience as a sign interpreter (one‑on‑one and audience‑based); practicum work may be considered.
  • Fluent ASL and English language skills with ability to convey high‑level educational content.
  • Experience working on access and inclusion issues to promote student success.
  • Oregon Licensure as a Provisional, Supervisory, or Generalist Sign Language Interpreter.
  • Successful completion of a criminal background check.
  • Must live in Oregon while performing the work.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree from an accredited institution by appointment date.
  • Completion of an accredited Interpreter Training Program.
  • Familiarity with learning management systems (Canvas, Blackboard, Moodle).
  • Experience with technology and assistive equipment to facilitate communication access.
  • Interpreting experience in a post‑secondary educational environment.
