Job summary

Brooklyn Bureau of Community Service (inc) is seeking a part-time Assistant Teacher - Floater for the Spring Creek location. The role focuses on afterschool and holiday camp coverage from 2:45 pm to 6:00 pm, with a 20-student classroom and in-person duties at Academy for Young Writers and Spring Creek Community School.

Responsibilities include lesson delivery, planning, field trips, parent engagement, and collaboration with lead teachers.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma required; some college preferred.
• Experience working with youth in afterschool or summer program environments.
• Must be flexible to work across all afterschool programs to provide coverage.
• Must pass background check with NYC and NYS Department of Health and NYC Department of Education.

Responsibilities

• Provide classroom substitute coverage and behavioral support.
• Implement hands-on multi-sensory and project-based lessons based on thematic curriculum.
• Submit lesson plans for approval to the site director and Education Specialist.
• Plan field trips with the lead teacher and supervise students during trips.
• Participate in professional development trainings as required.
• Use creative teaching strategies to boost literacy, social-emotional learning, and STEAM.
• Develop and plan culminating event presentations to showcase learning.
• Engage and communicate with parents and families as required by the site director.
• Provide supervision to 20 students during activities and transitions.
• Monitor authorized parent/guardian pick up of children.
• Assist with daily activity preparation and materials.
• Participate in agency-wide groups and meetings as required.
• Assist with development of funding proposals as needed.
• Other tasks may be required.
