Job summary

Middletown Public Schools is seeking a Youth Development Counselor to support afterschool academic enrichment, social-emotional learning, and recreational activities at Snow, Spencer and Beman. You will collaborate with the Site Coordinator and School Principal to deliver engaging, student-centered programming.

Role focuses on restorative relationships, growth mindset, and teamwork with teachers, parents and community partners. Part-time, grant-funded positions with varied afternoons.

Qualifications

• Ability to motivate and engage students in learning activities.
• Demonstrated Classroom Management and Teambuilding skills.
• Experience with Project Based Learning and STEAM, preferred.
• Demonstrated excellent oral and written communication skills.
• Demonstrated strong interpersonal skills with individuals, teams and groups (teachers, parents, administrators and support staff);
• First Aid/CPR Certification Preferred.

Responsibilities

• Plan and facilitate academic enrichment and recreational activities that promote personalized student learning and positive youth development;
• Record attendance and organize snack documentation in compliance with After School Snack Program regulations;
• Provide support to students during programming;
• Supervise students during all program aspects, including visits with guest vendors and community providers;
• Promote positive behavior during activities and transitions;
• Manage behavior issues per policy;
• Develop restorative relationships focusing on growth mindset and resilience;
• Participate in staff meetings and Professional Development offered by MPS and partners.
• Other duties as assigned.
