Job summary

Summit Therapy is seeking a warm Reading Tutor to deliver individualized after-school reading support to children in Plano and McKinney, TX. The role emphasizes building confidence and literacy skills through evidence-based instruction, tailored to each student's needs.

The ideal candidate has a degree in Education or Reading, experience with elementary readers, and strong communication with families. Teaching certification is preferred but not required; flexible hours provide an after-school

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Education, Reading, English, Speech-Language Pathology, or a related field.
• Experience providing reading instruction, literacy intervention, or academic tutoring.
• Experience working with elementary-aged children.
• Knowledge of evidence-based literacy instruction.
• Experience with students who have learning differences is a plus.
• Structured Literacy, Orton-Gillingham, Wilson, LETRS, or similar training is a plus.
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.

Responsibilities

• Provide individualized reading instruction to elementary and/or middle school students.
• Support foundational literacy skills: phonological awareness, phonics/decoding, sight-word recognition, reading fluency, vocabulary, comprehension, spelling.
• Identify areas of strength and need for students.
• Adapt instruction to each student’s learning style and goals.
• Use engaging, age-appropriate activities and evidence-based instructional strategies.
• Track progress and communicate with parents/caregivers.
• Collaborate with speech-language pathologists, occupational therapists, and other professionals when appropriate.
• Maintain brief, accurate session documentation.
• Create a positive environment that promotes confidence and independence.
