Job summary

Urbana School District #116 is seeking a Community School After-School Child Care Worker for Dr. Preston Williams Jr. Elementary School in Urbana, IL. The role supports both Early Childhood (ages 3-5) and Elementary Youth Care (ages 5-11) in a safe, engaging setting for families attending adult education.

The position is part-time, 5:15 pm–8:00 pm on Monday-Thursday (or alternate days), at $20.00 per hour, grant-funded for the 2026-2027 school year. Applications are accepted until filled.

Qualifications

• Minimum 1 year working with children in a licensed childcare facility, preschool, school, or camp setting.
• High school diploma or equivalent preferred; Associate's or bachelor's degree in education preferred.
• CDA (Child Development Associate) or coursework in Early Childhood Education is highly encouraged.
• Current CPR and First Aid certifications (or willingness to obtain after hire).
• Ability to pass a criminal background check, fingerprinting, and child abuse registry clearance.

Responsibilities

• Assist with bathroom breaks and basic hygiene; handwashing.
• Lead sensory play, read books, play with toys, and simple arts and crafts.
• Plan indoor and outdoor games; gross and fine motor activities.
• Supervise homework time; offer basic tutoring or reading/math help.
• Organize basic sports, group games, or interactive projects.
• Help children navigate peer social dynamics and resolve conflicts positively.
• Maintain visual contact; supervise snacks and follow allergy guidelines.
• Provide updates to parents at pickup; keep play areas clean.
