Part-Time Academic & Success Coach-Biology

for The EXCEL erator at SCC will help students applycritical thinking and problem-solving skills in the life sciences,lead workshops on topics such as cellular biology, anatomy &physiology, microbiology, ecology, and genetics, and provideguidance on laboratory techniques, scientific writing, and exampreparation. They must also contribute to the development and assessment of tools that measure the effectiveness of tutoring andcoaching services for biology.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPSONSIBILITIES

• Provide one-on-one coaching to students, focusing on studytechniques, time management, and strategies for masteringbiological concepts and skills.
• Actively promote tutoring and student success coaching serviceson and off campus for biology, encouraging students to seekassistance and utilize the robust services EXCELerator
• Support the Director in developing marketing strategies toincrease participation in academic support services inbiology.
• Work closely with faculty, advisors, and other campusdepartments on biology courses, ensuring students have access tocomprehensive academic support resources.
• Participate in campus-wide initiatives aimed at improvingstudent retention and success in biology.
• SCC has numerous discipline-focused tutors acrossBiology, Chemistry, Math, and Writing. Although thefoundation of the Academic & Success Coach position is thesame, each discipline requires specific knowledge, experience, andcriteria.

QUALIFICATIONS:

• Bachelor's degree in Biology or a closely related field(Master's degree preferred).
• Proficiency in introductory through advanced undergraduatebiology topics, including laboratory skills and safetyprocedures.
• At least 6 months of experience teaching, tutoring, orproviding academic support services to high school or communitycollege students.
