Job summary

Northeastern University seeks a part-time Global Learner Support (GLS) tutor in San Jose, CA, to provide 50-minute one-on-one English language instruction. Tutors address writing, speaking, reading, and test prep (IELTS/TOEFL/CELPIP) in a welcoming, student-centered environment.

Minimum qualifications include a Bachelor's in a related field and 2+ years experience; a Master’s is preferred. This on-ground role requires 5–10 hours weekly with Northeastern's GLS team.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in English, Applied Linguistics, TESOL, Education, or related field.
• TESOL/TEFL, ESL, or equivalent language-teaching qualification preferred.
• Minimum 2 years of experience teaching English as an additional/second language.

Responsibilities

• Supporting the mission and values of Global Learner Support.
• Develop academic and professional writing skills with targeted feedback.
• Develop students' oral communication skills through structured conversation and feedback.
• Support reading and vocabulary development with effective strategies.
• Prepare students for TOEFL-iBT, IELTS, and CELPIP test formats and practice.
• Prepare effectively for individual tutorials and tailor instruction.
• Deliver high-quality, student-centered tutorials and maintain professionalism.
• Contribute to the GLS team through meetings and shared practices.
