Job summary

Sunshine Coast Council is seeking a Parks Worker to support horticultural and landscaping services across public spaces. The role covers turf management, irrigation, planting and landscape upkeep to maintain attractive, safe parks for residents and visitors.

The position requires a Certificate II in Horticulture or hands-on experience, a White Card, and a strong safety mindset. A collaborative team environment and quality service delivery are essential.

About The Role

The Parks & Gardens Branch is responsible for the care, management and operation of Sunshine Coast Council's extensive network of parks, public open spaces and recreational areas. The team plays a vital role in preserving the region's natural landscapes, enhancing community liveability and creating welcoming outdoor environments for residents and visitors to enjoy. Working in this branch means contributing directly to some of the Sunshine Coast's most valued community assets.

As a Parks Worker, you will support the delivery of high-quality horticultural, landscaping and parks maintenance services across the Sunshine Coast. From turf management and irrigation to planting and landscape upkeep, you'll play an important role in maintaining attractive, functional and safe public spaces. This hands-on opportunity offers variety, teamwork and the satisfaction of seeing the positive impact of your work every day.

  • Perform horticultural and landscaping activities including planting, pruning, mulching, mowing, irrigation and turf management.
  • Assist with landscape construction, maintenance works and general park improvements.
  • Monitor and assess the condition of plants and landscaped areas, identifying maintenance needs.
  • Operate and maintain machinery and equipment safely while supporting a strong safety and customer service culture.
About You

You have a Certificate II in Horticulture or relevant hands-on experience and are passionate about maintaining quality parks, gardens and community spaces.

You hold a White Card and bring practical skills in horticulture, landscaping, grounds maintenance or similar outdoor environments.

You enjoy working as part of a team, take pride in delivering high-quality outcomes and are committed to providing excellent service to the community.

You have a strong safety mindset, follow procedures and actively contribute to a positive, healthy and high-performing workplace culture.

Pre-Employment Medical Required

Essential to your success is physical agility and the level of fitness, strength and dexterity to carry out labouring and frequent heavy lifting & bending. As such, appointment to this position is subject to completion of a pre-employment medical assessment.
