Job summary

NSW National Parks and Wildlife Service, part of the DCCEEW, is seeking a Project Officer – Clerk Grade 7/8 to support Major Infrastructure Delivery in Greater Sydney. Based in Audley with hybrid working, you will coordinate projects from planning through to delivery, manage budgets and reporting, and engage stakeholders to ensure outcomes align with NSW government priorities.

The role offers a temporary full-time appointment till 30 June 2028 with salary commensurate with experience

About the role

National Parks and Wildlife Service has a unique opportunity for a Project Officer to work as part of the Greater Sydney Branch Major Infrastructure Delivery team.

The Project Officer plays a key role in supporting the planning, delivery and monitoring of infrastructure projects across the National Parks and Wildlife Service (NPWS). The position is responsible for coordinating project activities, developing project documentation, monitoring budgets and timelines, and ensuring projects are delivered effectively and in line with organisational objectives.

Key responsibilities include:

• Supporting the development, implementation and review of projects and programs.
• Preparing scopes of work and contract documentation for the construction or repair of visitor or operational infrastructure, buildings, structures and heritage assets;
• Coordinating project design teams, contractors and stakeholders to achieve agreed outcomes.
• Preparing reports, briefs, business documentation and project updates for management.
• Developing and monitoring project programs, risks, budgets and deliverables, and reporting on project performance.
• Conducting research, analysing information and identifying emerging issues to support informed decision-making.
• Managing stakeholder engagement activities, including consultations, working groups and committees.
• Undertaking procurement and contract administration.
• Building strong working relationships across internal teams and external stakeholders and providing guidance or technical support where required.

About You

The successful Project Officer will be highly organised, able to manage multiple priorities, and capable of identifying and mitigating project risks. They will demonstrate strong communication and stakeholder management skills, sound project management experience, analytical thinking, and the ability to deliver quality outcomes within agreed timeframes and budgets.

We are looking for highly motivated individuals with the initiative, ability, and desire to work in small, dynamic, and productive team. Previous achievement in delivering infrastructure or construction projects within a public space or natural resource setting will be highly regarded. An understanding of environmental impact assessment processes and some public sector knowledge would be desirable.

Essential requirements

• Appropriate tertiary qualifications and/or equivalent relevant working experience in project management.
