Job summary

Civic Recruitment Limited is seeking a hands-on Grounds Maintenance assistant on a 3-month contract with a local authority in Enfield. The role supports the Parks Team to keep public spaces safe, clean and welcoming.

You will cut grass, trim hedges, prune, maintain playgrounds and pitches, operate strimmers and hedge cutters, and follow health and safety procedures. 35 hours per week, Mon-Thu 7:30–4 and Fri 7:30–3; brief induction before start.

Qualifications

• Experience in grounds maintenance or similar outdoor role.
• Basic knowledge of horticultural machinery (e.g., strimmers, hedge cutters).
• Strong understanding of Health & Safety requirements.
• Ability to follow instructions accurately.

Responsibilities

• Perform grounds maintenance duties, including grass cutting, strimming, hedge cutting, pruning, and general upkeep of parks and open spaces.
• Operate basic horticultural and grounds maintenance machinery safely and effectively (e.g., strimmers, hedge cutters).
• Maintain playgrounds, sports pitches, and countryside areas to required standards.
• Adhere to all Health & Safety procedures, including risk assessments and safe working practices.
• Work independently or as part of a team to complete assigned tasks.

Requirements:

Essential Experience Required

• Ability to follow instructions accurately.
  

Essential Qualifications Required

• Relevant horticultural or grounds maintenance training (desirable).
  

Additional Information

• Working hours: 35 hours per week.
  
• 7:30 AM - 4 PM Mon - Thurs and 7:30 AM - 3 PM
• Selected candidates will undergo a short interview and are expected to attend a brief induction prior to the start date.
  
• Successful candidates will have a placement created and a start date agreed upon.
