Job summary

The City of Somerville is seeking a Parks & Recreation Supervisor to oversee year-round recreational activities and staff, including counselors and aides. The role emphasizes safety, programming quality, and staff supervision in a part-time/seasonal capacity.

Responsibilities include event setup, field supervision, emergency communication, and maintaining program records. Applicants should have a High School Diploma and 5 years in recreation, with First Aid/CPR/AED training to be provided.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma required; college enrollment in recreation-related field preferred.
• Minimum 5 years of experience in recreation or a related field.
• First Aid/CPR and AED training, to be provided to incoming employees.

Responsibilities

• Oversee a variety of Parks & Recreation activities and quality programming.
• Supervise setup and cleanup of facilities for special events, including evenings and weekends.
• Maintain a safe, open space for participants and adhere to safety policies.
• Communicate emergencies and other situations with parents, participants, and staff.
• Monitor facilities for safety and report concerns to supervisor/Coordinator.
• Provide guidance and act as a positive role model for SPR participants, counselors, and aides.
• Assist with scheduling, coverage, and enforcing rules for staff and participants.
• Report issues to Recreation Program Coordinator as needed.
