Job summary

The City of Shoreview is seeking a Maintenance Worker in the Parks & Recreation Department to install, repair, and maintain parks, trails, and facilities. Responsibilities include grounds care, irrigation, and snow removal for various facilities, with strict safety and record-keeping standards.

Minimum qualifications include a high school diploma, a valid driver’s license with potential CDL within 1 year, 6 months maintenance experience, and the ability to lift heavy loads.

Responsibilities

• Install, construct and maintain parks, parking lots, open spaces and trails.
• Perform landscaping and grounds care including planting, mowing, fertilizing, weed control, seeding, irrigation.
• Maintain recreational areas such as ball fields, soccer fields, lacrosse fields, park shelters, ice rinks and other facilities.
• Remove snow from Community Center, Library, School District offices, Fire Stations and park sidewalks, trails and parking lots.
• Perform routine safety checks and inspections on vehicles and equipment.
• Maintain accurate work records.
• Operate heavy equipment safely and comply with safety standards.
• Lift and move heavy loads as part of daily tasks.

Job description

The City of Shoreview is accepting applications for a Maintenance Worker in the Parks & Recreation Department.

• Install, construct and maintain parks, parking lots, open spaces and trails.
• Perform landscaping and grounds care including planting, mowing, fertilizing, weed control, seeding, irrigation, etc.
• Maintain recreational areas such as ball fields, soccer fields, lacrosse fields, park shelters, ice rinks and other recreation facilities.
• Remove snow from Community Center, Library, School District offices, Fire Stations and park sidewalks, trails and parking lots.
• Perform duties in accordance with appropriate safety and security standards.
• Perform routine safety checks and inspections on vehicles and equipment.
• Maintain accurate work records.
• Perform general labor including frequently lifting and/or moving up to 75 lbs. and occasionally lifting and/or moving more than 100 lbs.
• Other duties and special projects as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications:

• High School Diploma or equivalent
• Valid Driver's License; with ability to obtain MN Commercial Driver's License Class A and tanker endorsement within 1 year of hire.
• 6 months maintenance work experience*
• 6 months experience operating trucks and other light equipment*
• Ability to lift and/or move 75-100 lbs
• The final candidate will be required to take and pass a drug test and physical exam.

* Vocational or Technical degree may be substituted for experience

Desired Qualifications:

• Vocational/technical graduate with training in park maintenance, landscaping or related field
• Additional experience operating trucks and light equipment
• Current Class A or B CDL license
• Relevant current certifications
• Commercial irrigation and/or horticulture experience
• Experience in park maintenance

Hours:

Normally, 6:30am - 3:00pm with some seasonal adjustments; subject to call back, unscheduled overtime, shift work and weekend duty.

Hiring Wage Range:

$34.30 – $37.81 per hour, plus excellent benefits. (2026 Full Wage Range: $34.30 - $45.78 per hour)

PHYSICAL DEMANDS AND WORK ENVIRONMENT:

• Sitting, standing, walking, reaching, twisting, kneeling, bending, squatting, grasping andstooping required for daily activities.
• Perform general labor including frequently lifting and/or moving up to 75-lbs and occasionally lifting and/or moving more than 100-lbs.
• Work outside on a daily basis operating construction/maintenance type vehicles and equipment.
• Work at elevated heights utilizing aerial equipment and ladders.
