Required Education And Experience

  • Graduation from high school or GED equivalent; and

Preferred Qualifications

  • Proficiency in GIS mapping software
  • Possession of the Oregon Public Pesticide License.
  • Certified Playground Safety Inspector.
  • Certified Park and Recreation Professional.

Available Schedule

  • 8 hours daily, Monday - Friday

  • Scheduled salary increases and a 2.5% Cost of Living Adjustment (COLA) will be effective July 1, 2025**

The anticipated hiring range for the Parks Maintenance Supervisor position is $37.54 (first step) to $39.41 or $41.38 (second or third step). The City of Medford determines starting pay based on an evaluation of relevant education, experience, and qualifications as provided by the applicant in their application materials, alongside others who perform work of comparable character consistent with the Oregon Equal Pay Act. Six steps are included in this salary range, allowing opportunity for annual movement through the steps.

Examples of Job Duties

Essential Functions Of The Position

  • Supervises and participates in City grounds repairs and maintenance, such as: planting, pruning, mowing, trimming and edging turf for planting beds, walkways, special use areas, etc.
  • Supervises staff, including assigning work, scheduling, providing guidance, employee development, hiring, disciplinary recommendations, etc.
  • Responsible for conducting performance management reviews and evaluations of direct reports.
  • Verifies and approves employee’s scheduled hours, time off, and overtime for timely payroll processing.
  • Participates in weed abatement activities utilizing Integrated Pest Management Strategies and Programs.
  • Coordinates, schedules, and assigns equipment and vehicle use; conducts routine safety inspections of all equipment; processes and tracks repair work; trains employees on safe work procedures.
  • Participates in the development and administration of preventative maintenance schedules and participates in long-range landscape and hardscape replacement and maintenance planning.
  • May be tasked with coordinating and administering capital improvements projects.
  • Recommends cost saving measures and strategies to improve operational efficiencies.
  • Participates in preparing the annual landscape operating budget.
  • Purchases landscape supplies, tools, equipment, and reconciles purchase orders with invoices.
  • Coordinates procurement procedures with staff.
  • Directs, supervises and evaluates the work performance of assigned staff, including selection, training, disciplinary action and recommendations for termination.
  • Authorizes time off requests of supervised staff.
  • Serves as a liaison with City departments, external organizations, agencies and Medford residents.
  • Coordinates and provides support for special recreation programs and events as assigned.
  • Scope of assigned area will depend on departmental and/or citywide operational structure and is at the discretion of the Parks & Open Space Manager.

Other Functions Of The Position

  • May be assigned to administer Park-wide centrally controlled irrigation system.
  • Manages personnel for the City’s Tree & Right-of-way program to include the Prescott Park fire fuel management program and Tree City USA program.
  • Oversees synthetic turf maintenance and repairs, checks infill depth, grooms and repairs turf as needed.
  • Upholds the values of the organization and has strong customer service orientation.

Work Environment & Physical Demands

Work is conducted both in the office and in the field, involving exposure to diverse weather conditions, uneven terrain, and potentially hazardous work sites. Environment includes interaction with the public and potential exposure to disruptive people.
