Job summary

The City of Providence seeks staff for the Parks Department to perform general custodial and semi-skilled tasks under supervision. The role involves manual labor, basic maintenance, and assisting a foreman with assigned tasks, with potential for over time or temporary duration.

Candidates must have a valid driver’s license and be willing to obtain a CDL permit and air brakes endorsement within specified timelines; experience with cleaning, carpentry, painting, and equipment operation is valued.

Qualifications

• Valid state driver's license; must obtain CDL permit within six months and CDL with air brakes endorsement within nine months.
• Confined Space certification within six months.
• Ability to understand and follow oral and written instructions; maintain routine records.
• Experience with light and heavy manual labor and use of hand tools.
• Knowledge of basic building maintenance, cleaning methods, materials and equipment.
• Must be able to perform all essential functions and provide customer service to the public professionally.

Responsibilities

• Performs a variety of duties requiring manual skills or specialized knowledge learned on the job.
• Performs semi-skilled tasks including rough carpentry, painting, laying out water pipes and hydrants and drilling rocks.
• Performs routine custodial work and janitorial duties, including cleaning, moving furniture and equipment, minor repairs, cleaning sidewalks of debris and snow/ice.
• Assists foreman of a crew for specific tasks such as highway patching or snow removal.
• Performs skilled work and other related duties as assigned.
