Job summary

City of Boulder is seeking a Parks Supervisor to coordinate turf and horticultural maintenance, operate skilled equipment, and lead daily operations in an urban park setting.

The role requires strong leadership, maintenance expertise, and the ability to manage staff, safety programs, and emergencies. 40-hour weeks with full-time hourly compensation, CDL-eligible, and background check required.

Qualifications

• High School diploma or GED required.
• Minimum five years in horticulture, turf management, irrigation and park maintenance.
• Experience in leading teams and training staff.
• Ability to operate light equipment (string trimmers, blowers, chainsaws, etc.).
• Knowledge of maintenance scheduling and preventative maintenance.
• Strong horticultural and turfgrass knowledge.
• Understanding of Integrated Pest Management in parks.
• Knowledge of landscaping principles and safety around heavy equipment.
• Experience with parks facilities and trails.
• Proficiency with asset management software.
• Must pass background check before start.

Responsibilities

• Takes a leadership role within Parks staff, assigning tasks and guiding team members.
• Monitors work quality, efficiency, and adherence to standards.
• Assists in hiring, training, and performance management of staff.
• Leads training programs on equipment safety, parks maintenance, wildlife management.
• Collaborates with Parks staff on maintenance needs, projects, and emergencies.
• Oversees contracted work for timely completion and alignment with specs.
• Coordinates with event promoters, city departments, and vendors for event setup.
• Oversees Park and Playground Safety Program including inspections and maintenance.
• Performs horticultural tasks: planting, fertilizing, pruning, weed control.
• Executes turf maintenance: mowing, fertilization, aeration, irrigation management.
• Coordinates with irrigation to maintain systems and conserve water.
• Enforces safety procedures and policies for a safe work environment.
• Schedules maintenance on equipment, structures, and facilities.
• Responds to emergencies (tree damage, flood, etc.).
• Adheres to city mission, vision, and values.
• Performs snow removal duties as required.
