Job summary

City of Houston’s Greenspace Management seeks an Equipment Worker (Light) to maintain city parks and medians, operating small tractors and mowing equipment while following safety protocols. The role involves groundskeeping, litter pickup, edging, and routine maintenance of tools; a CDL may be required for certain equipment, and prior plant or automotive equipment experience is preferred.

Qualifications

• Ability to read, write, add, subtract and follow oral or basic written instructions.
• Six months of experience operating plant or automotive equipment.
• May be required to have a valid Class A or B CDL and comply with driving policy.

Responsibilities

• Operate and maintain a single flail mower, deck mower or tractor (45 HP or less) on city parks and medians.
• Perform groundskeeping duties including litter pickup, trimming, edging, and push-mowing.
• Operate grounds maintenance equipment (edgers, weed eaters) and follow safety procedures.
• Assist with chemical spraying and special projects; maintain and clean equipment, tools, and restrooms.
• Perform other duties as assigned; position is essential personnel under Emergency Management Policy.
