The City of San Juan, Texas is seeking a General Laborer to perform tasks such as maintaining lawns, picking up trash, and operating power tools. This role demands a strong capability for manual labor in various weather conditions.
Applicants should have a high school diploma or GED, must be able to lift heavy items, and possess a valid Texas Driver's License. The position offers hourly pay of $13.20.
Under immediate supervision of the Parks Superintendent and/or his designee. Is responsible for general labor of corresponding department. No responsibility for reports and/or records. Decisions are made on a routine level. Position has little or no contact with the public. The position has no supervisory responsibilities.
City vehicle, two-way radio, trade tools, general garden tools, weed eaters, push mowers, chain saws, hedgers, blowers, and 15 - 30 hp garden tractors.
Some unusual working hours, irregular hours or shifts, may involve occasional travel. Exposure to hazards which might result in serious injury or death, may work under extreme outdoor conditions. Continuous lifting of heavy materials, constant physical movement; demands physical strength associated with hard labor or forceful physical contacts. Must be able to lift 15-25 lbs.
Must have a minimum of six (6) months related experience to perform effectively, with little supervision, in work situations which are varied or which have deviations and irregularities. Must be able to perform strenuous manual labor tasks; able to follow oral instructions; able to work under extreme weather conditions. Must possess a valid, Texas Drivers’ License. Requires a high school diploma or GED equivalent; however, will be afforded an opportunity to acquire within nine (9) months if the applicant does not possess one at the time of employment.
