Job summary

The Town of Needham is seeking a Laborer 2 to join the Parks & Forestry Division of the Department of Public Works. This full-time, entry-level role offers on-the-job training and a path to certification, with competitive benefits.

Work schedule is Mon–Thu 6:30am–3:30pm and Fri 6:30am–12:30pm, totaling 40 hours weekly. Responsibilities include general laboring, tree-related tasks, equipment operation, and seasonal maintenance, with potential CDL requirements.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Valid MA Driver’s License; Class B CDL permit required on hire with six-month upgrade window.
• Ability to communicate well and perform outdoor work in all weather; able to lift heavy objects.

Responsibilities

• Perform routine laboring duties solo or in crew (digging, raking, mowing, shoveling, lifting).
• Cut and remove tree limbs, branches, leaves and brush.
• Assist in seasonal tasks including field and rink maintenance.
• Operate various vehicles and power tools; assist small dump truck operations.
• Maintain safety and cleanliness of work areas; comply with safety rules.
• Provide Snow & Ice Program support; may assist other DPW projects.
