Job summary

The City of Vernon seeks a Supervisor to oversee all parks, city facilities, and the cemetery, ensuring safe, well-maintained operations for residents.

You will supervise staff across Parks, Recreation, Facilities Maintenance, and Cemetery, assist the Public Works Director with budgeting, and approve expenditures for capital and daily needs.

The role involves public interactions, training, enforcing safety practices, and ensuring compliance with city ordinances and applicable regulations.

Qualifications

• Ability to interpret regulations of the State Health Department in municipal swimming pool operation.
• Knowledge and experience with turf grasses, ornamental plants and tree care management.
• Knowledge of herbicides and chemicals for weed and plant control.
• Knowledge of watering systems and ability to maintain and repair.

Responsibilities

• Supervise and oversee operations of all city parks, city owned facilities, and the cemetery.
• Provide guidance and supervision to all employees in the Parks & Recreation, Facilities Maintenance, and Cemetery Department; assist Public Works Director in budgeting and expenditures; approve capital improvements and daily items.
• Interview candidates for hiring and evaluate job performance; provide training and enforce safety practices for the department.
• Interact with the public on parks, recreation, and cemetery projects and issues; resolve disputes and maintain positive public relations.
• Ensure compliance with City of Vernon Code of Ordinances and relevant regulations; perform other duties as assigned by the Public Works Director.
