INTERNAL CANDIDATES ONLY
AT-A-GLANCE POSITION INFORMATION:

The Parks and Recreation Department is seeking an energetic, dependable, and community-focused recreation professional to join its team as a Recreation Leader III. The ideal candidate enjoys working in a fast-paced, team-oriented environment and is comfortable taking a lead role in supporting recreation programs, sports, special events, afterschool and summer camp programs, and facility operations.

The successful candidate will demonstrate initiative, sound judgment, professionalism, and strong customer service skills. They should be comfortable providing direction and guidance to recreation staff and volunteers while remaining actively involved in programs and activities. The ideal candidate is flexible, organized, and willing to jump in wherever needed to help create safe, welcoming, and enjoyable experiences for the community.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS

  2. 2. Assists with the organization, implementation, and conduct of sports activities, arts and crafts, games, and other established recreational activities for youth and/or adults. E
  3. 3. Provides lead direction and guidance to Recreation Leader I and II staff, seasonal employees, Youth at Work staff, volunteers, and program participants during assigned programs and activities. E
  4. 4. Assists in monitoring sports leagues and tournaments, playgrounds, community centers, meeting rooms, park areas, special events, afterschool and summer camp programs; transports program participants as assigned; and promotes participant safety through the proper use of equipment and enforcement of rules and regulations. E
  5. 5. Assists with on-the-job orientation and training of new seasonal employees and Recreation Leader I and II staff regarding established program procedures, equipment use, and department rules and regulations. E
  6. 6. Coordinates and processes registrations for recreation programs, activities, classes, and special events using the department’s recreation software; assists participants with account creation and enrollment; collects payments; responds to general registration inquiries; and maintains accurate participant records. E
  7. 7. Performs routine program, facility, and park support duties associated with recreation activities and special events, including event and activity cleanup, litter and trash collection and disposal, field preparation, minor graffiti cleanup, and other basic custodial support necessary to maintain safe and orderly program and park areas. E
  8. 8. Sets up and takes down tables, chairs, equipment, and other materials for classes, programs, sports activities, and special events. E
  9. 9. Provides lead direction and guidance during sports activities, arts and crafts, games, and other recreational activities for youth and/or adults. E
  10. 10. Performs related duties as assigned.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Education:
  • High school diploma or equivalent.
Experience:
  • Previous experience providing recreation program, sports, youth activity, special event, or related community services support. Experience providing lead direction or guidance to staff or volunteers is desirable.

Any combination of training, education, and experience which would indicate possession of the knowledge, skills, and abilities listed herein may be considered.

REQUIRED LICENSES AND/OR CERTIFICATES

At time of hire, possession of a valid California Class C Driver's License and an acceptable driving record is required. Incumbents must obtain the required passenger endorsement within six (6) months of employment and must maintain the required license, endorsement, and an acceptable driving record throughout employment.

Attainment of a valid CPR/First Aid Safety/AED certification within six months of employment is required.
