Job summary

Foundation YMCA of Wilson is seeking a Parkinson’s Exercise Class Instructor to support participants, caregivers, and fellow instructors in a community-centered program. You will help design and deliver safe, engaging sessions that improve strength, mobility, and confidence for people living with Parkinson’s disease.

As part of a team, you will assist with setup, transportation, and space preparation while maintaining a respectful and inclusive environment.

Qualifications

• Group Exercise Certification and/or degree in Exercise Science or other acceptable degree.
• Passion for serving others and supporting individuals living with Parkinson’s disease.
• Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
• Ability to work collaboratively with instructors, staff, participants, and caregivers.
• Patience, empathy, and a positive attitude.
• Dependable and punctual with a commitment to maintaining participant safety and confidentiality.
• Previous experience working with older adults, individuals with Parkinson’s disease, or fitness programs preferred but not required.
• Must complete all required YMCA training and background screening processes.

Responsibilities

• Create and teach a safe and effective class for participants.
• Support other instructors during class and manage activities flow.
• Monitor participant safety and adjust as needed.
• Provide gentle assistance and communicate concerns to instructors.
• Encourage and engage participants with positive reinforcement.
• Foster community and belonging among participants and caregivers.
• Assist with setup and breakdown of equipment and space.
• Support transportation of participants to and from class areas as needed.
