Job summary

Great Basin Institute (GBI), in cooperation with the National Park Service at Joshua Tree National Park, seeks a Visitor outreach technician to enhance visitor education and safety in Twentynine Palms, CA. This seasonal role supports visitor services, outreach, and volunteer programs within the park.

Primary duties include face-to-face visitor assistance, creating outreach content, and coordinating on-site volunteer activities, with a focus on safety messaging and effective communication in

Qualifications

• Strong communication and interpersonal skills suitable for engaging with visitors, volunteers, partners, and staff.
• Ability to learn and accurately convey park information, safety guidance, regulations, and resource information.
• Willingness to work independently and in teams, take initiative, and stay professional in a public setting.
• Ability to work in challenging outdoor conditions following safety standards, including heat, cold, wind, and storms.
• Must have a valid driver’s license and clean driving record.

Responsibilities

• Assist in hands-on data collection and field/office tasks.
• Support development and use of outreach products, including videos and photos.
• Enhance visitor orientation, trip planning, and safety messaging through in-park and digital channels.
• Support volunteer programs and stewardship projects through on-site coordination and public outreach.
• Improve visitor safety and volunteer recruitment/retention via clear communication and organized experiences.
