Job summary

New York State Parks, Recreation & Historic Preservation is seeking a Trades Generalist to maintain park facilities, roads, utilities, and grounds in New York. Under supervision, duties include operating cranes and heavy equipment and performing site prep and maintenance tasks across park facilities.

The role requires four years of skilled trades experience or equivalent training, with a valid CDL and driver’s license.

Qualifications

• Four years of full-time experience under a skilled tradesperson or equivalent combination of experience and training.
• Valid driver's license appropriate for the vehicle operated.
• Part-time and volunteer experience may be prorated if verifiable.

Responsibilities

• Operate cranes, excavators, backhoes, loaders, and other heavy equipment safely and efficiently.
• Perform excavation, grading, trenching, material handling, and site preparation work.
• Assist with construction, repair, and maintenance projects across park facilities and grounds.
• Conduct routine equipment inspections and perform minor maintenance as needed.
• Follow all safety regulations, procedures, and agency policies.
• Collaborate with maintenance staff, contractors, and supervisors.
• Assist with emergency response operations, including storm damage cleanup and park-related emergencies.
