Job summary

Westfield Parks and Recreation Department is seeking a Basketball Supervisor for the winter season. The role oversees daily basketball program operations, reports to the Deputy Superintendent, and supports coaches and participants from November through March.

Must be 16 years of age or older with experience in basketball instruction and a positive recreation atmosphere. Part-time evenings or weekend hours are typical, with a Monday–Friday 8:00 a.m. – 4:00 p.m. schedule for duties.

Qualifications

• Experience working with the public in a recreation setting.
• Experience in instructional basketball preferred.
• CPR and First Aid certification preferred.

Responsibilities

• Prepare the area for basketball games.
• Enforce guidelines for the basketball program.
• Monitor gym conditions and recommend improvements.
• Submit equipment lists and written materials as assigned.
• Communicate effectively with volunteers and participants.
• Maintain open communication with the department on program issues.
• Distribute t-shirts to coaches in instructional divisions.
• Ensure each team has a coach and provide participant certificates at season end.
• Maintain program equipment safety and records of operations.

The City of Westfield is now accepting seasonal applications for the Parks and Recreation Department winter position of Basketball Supervisors. Posted October 16th, 2026 - October 30th, 2026.

Basketball Supervisors Must be 16 years of age or older. Duties include teaching and supervising children and adults in the sport of basketball. Thorough knowledge of basketball and prior basketball instructional experience preferred. Experience working with children or adults part-time, evenings or weekend hours from November through March. The hourly rate is $15.00 hr.

Hours are from Monday-Friday 8:00 a.m. - 4:00 p.m.

Basketball Supervisor

The Basketball Supervisor oversees the daily operation of the basketball program.

The Basketball Supervisor is appointed by and reports to the Deputy Superintendent of Parks and Recreation Department or his or her designee.

Duties and Responsibilities

• Responsible for preparing the area for basketball games
• Enforces guidelines set for the basketball program
• Monitors gym conditions and makes recommendations
• Submits equipment list and other written materials as assigned
• Communicate effectively with volunteers and participants
• Responsible for maintaining an open line of communication with department regarding all situations concerning the program and participants
• Hands out t-shirts to coaches to instructional divisions
• Makes sure every team has a coach
• Provides participants certificates at end of season to coaches
• Responsible for maintenance and safe and proper use of program equipment
• Maintains records of program operations including regarding incident/accident reports and other information
• Hand in own time sheet every Friday or use the drop-off box
• Other duties as assigned

Minimum Qualifications

• Experience working with the public and providing a positive recreation atmosphere.
• Experience in instructional basketball preferred.
• CPR and First Aid certified preferred
