Job summary

Oregon Parks and Recreation Department seeks a Park Ranger 1 for Detroit Lake State Recreation Area, near Salem. This permanent, full-time role covers protection, maintenance, and operation of park lands, resources and facilities within the Detroit Lake Management Unit.

Responsibilities include hands-on trades, interpretation, and enforcing park rules to ensure safe, welcoming public access. Minimum qualifications include two years of visitor services experience and/or an Associate’s degree with

Qualifications

Two years of visitor services experience (e.g. rule enforcement; interpretation; events).
AND/OR an Associate’s degree or higher in Park and Recreation Administration, Natural Resource Management, Environmental Studies and 6 months of visitor services or maintenance experience.
Experience operating tools and basic maintenance tasks (carpentry, painting, landscaping) required.

Responsibilities

Protect, maintain, and operate state park lands, resources, facilities, equipment and infrastructure.
Perform basic plumbing, carpentry, painting, and grounds-keeping tasks; operate maintenance equipment.
Explain park rules, answer questions, and ensure visitor safety and compliance.
