Job summary

New York State Parks, Recreation & Historic Preservation seeks a skilled maintenance/operations professional to supervise park operations and oversee maintenance tasks at WOTH. The role collaborates with park management to ensure safe, efficient service and visitor satisfaction.

Responsibilities include supervising staff, operating equipment, managing inventory and fees, and supporting snow/ice removal and emergency procedures within park facilities and programs.

Qualifications

  • One year of experience in operation/maintenance of a park, historic site, golf course, or recreational facility.
  • One year of experience in law enforcement, security, firefighting, EMS, environmental education/stewardship, natural resources management, historic preservation/interpretation, or grounds maintenance.
  • One year of US Armed Forces service.
  • Thirty (30) college credits from an accredited college or university OR completion of a two-year technical/trades program OR two years as a trade assistant.
  • Credit hours must be from an accredited institution; if outside the US, verification of equivalency is required.

Responsibilities

  • Supervise operations and maintenance activities at WOTH.
  • Troubleshoot maintenance issues and operate the WOTH elevator as needed.
  • Assist in supervising, training, assigning, reviewing, and evaluating the work of lower-level employees.
  • Supervise lower level employees in opening or closing procedures at the Walkway.
  • Perform administrative tasks including purchasing, maintaining inventories, collecting and reconciling fees, preparing reports, and assisting visitors.
  • Perform maintenance of the Walkway, including concrete and expansion joint repair.
  • Operate a range of power-driven equipment (trucks, tractors, bobcats, snowplows, trailers, mowers, chainsaws, power saws).
  • Maintenance of grounds/buildings, including restroom cleaning with green practices.
  • Maintain the Walkway’s maintenance center and park facilities.
  • Coordinate snow/ice removal operations, including extreme weather planning.
  • Assist in pruning and tree trimming with chainsaw operation.
  • Assist supervisor with hazardous tree identification and logging.
  • Maintain parking lots and pay station systems.
  • Assist in emergencies and communicate with staff/patrons.
  • Coordinate scheduling and public events/programs at WOTH.
  • Collaborate with Friends Group, volunteers, community, and vendors.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
