Job summary

Cleveland Metroparks is seeking a Park Manager Trainee to develop the knowledge and skills needed to assume the Park Manager role. The program combines structured education, hands-on training, and direct experience under the guidance of the Park Manager and Director of Parks.

Key responsibilities include staff hiring/training, budget oversight, safety, facility operations, and event coordination across Parks District locations.

Qualifications

• A bachelor’s degree in parks and recreation management is preferred; five years of progressive parks and recreation experience may qualify.
• Valid driver’s license; CPR and First Aid certification preferred.
• Knowledge of park management practices including turf management, arboriculture, horticulture, facility design, construction and maintenance, conservation procedures, and equipment operations.
• Ability to manage multiple programs, deadlines, and work with diverse stakeholders.

Responsibilities

• Interviews, selects, trains, and coaches staff; directs and assigns work; maintains productivity records.
• Monitors maintenance projects; prioritizes and ensures timely completion.
• Ensures safe, clean, well‑maintained parks; responds to patron questions and concerns.
• Oversees budgets, purchases, Procard use; reconciles accounts; assists payroll.
• Provides setup/takedown for events and coordinates with various divisions.
• Travels to locations throughout the Park District as assigned.
• Produces reports and attends manager meetings and administrative sessions.
