Job summary

The Park Manager Trainee program by cmpcareers develops the knowledge and skills needed to assume full responsibility for a Park Manager role. The Trainee receives structured education, hands-on training, and direct experience performing all Park Manager duties under the guidance of the Park Manager and Director of Parks.

Responsibilities include interviewing and coaching staff, directing work, managing budgets and payroll, coordinating events, and ensuring safe, well‑maintained parks.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in parks and recreation management preferred.
• Five years of progressive parks and recreation experience with lead or supervisory responsibilities or equivalent.

Responsibilities

• Interviews, selects, trains, and coaches staff; directs and assigns work; adjusts schedules; maintains productivity records.
• Manages materials and supplies; ensures safety and legal compliance; handles complaints and discipline.
• Oversees maintenance projects; monitors daily crew progress; ensures timely completion.
• Oversees budgets, purchase orders, Procard use, and payroll processing.
• Provides clean, safe facilities for programs; coordinates with divisions on projects.
• Inspects vehicles/equipment; oversees maintenance and fleet needs.
• Completes reports and meetings; supports interdepartmental events; coordinates reservations.
• Travels to locations across the Park District as assigned.
