Position Overview

The City of Overland Park has a full-time Park Maintenance Specialist 1 position available in the Parks and Recreation Department.

Summary

Performs a wide variety of semi-skilled and skilled tasks related to planting, turf maintenance, and repair of parks, recreation facilities, and grounds. Assists with special events.

Responsibilities

• Maintains, inspects, repairs, lubricates, and cleans equipment and tools according to manufacturer specifications and city policies.
• Assists in emergency operations, including snow removal and storm damage.
• Performs turf management tasks such as laying sod, operating various mowers, and transporting equipment.
• Handles trash collection and disposal in parks and traffic islands.
• Operates tractors for seeding, fertilizing, and aerating turf areas.
• Seeds and fertilizes turf, calibrates equipment, and applies pesticides following safety procedures.
• Prepares ball fields for league play, including dragging, chalking, and moving bases.
• Performs additional duties such as cleaning parks, assisting with irrigation testing, and minor repairs.

Requirements

• Basic education or equivalent experience.
• Valid Class A or B commercial driver’s license with air brake endorsement within 6 months of employment.
• Pesticide applicator licenses (categories 3A and 3B) are preferred but not required.
